April Surgent

Born in Missoula, MT, April Surgent earned a BFA in glass from the Australian National University in Canberra in 2004.  Inspired by Czech master, Jiri Harcuba (1928-2013), her engraved glass snapshots of the everyday, have breathed new life into cameo engraving.  As a result, her work has already been the subject of two solo museum exhibitions – at the Bellevue Arts Museum in 2010 and at the Chrysler Museum of Art in 2012.  It is included in public and private collections in the United States, Australia and Europe.  April received a 2009 Neddy Fellowship from the Behnke Foundation in Seattle and the 2010 New Talent Award from UrbanGlass.  In late 2013, as a Fellow of the National Science Foundation, she was artist in residence at Palmer Station, Antarctica.   April Surgent lives and works in Seattle, WA.
